OFB Member Benefits help family survive ice storm

This week Nashville was host to 1,300 Farm Bureau members attending the AFBF Fusion Conference – and also to the worst winter weather the region has seen in over a decade.

Just as the conference ended, a major ice storm hit the southeast, causing mass flight cancellations in and out of the Nashville airport. A lot of farmers and ranchers suddenly found themselves stranded at the Opryland Resort Hotel.

With a farm and two young sons to take care of back home in Oregon, Kathy Hadley decided to take action instead of wait for the weather to turn for a 50-50 chance of getting a flight out of Nashville within the next two days.

“A group of us decided to road-trip to Atlanta where there was a functioning airport,” said Hadley, who serves as chair of OFB’s Young Farmers & Ranchers Committee.

While perusing the options for car rentals, Hadley remembered that she had an OFB Member Benefits sheet in her bag, which described how to access the many Farm Bureau discounts.

“I knew I could get a 20% discount with Avis because I’m a member of Oregon Farm Bureau,” Hadley said. She ended up with a great deal on a van.

Another OFB member benefit came in handy four hours later when the group arrived in Atlanta. On the way, Hadley called a Choice Hotel near the airport and made an advanced reservation with the OFB discount code.

“So we also got 20% off of our hotel rooms,” said Hadley. “Between the Avis and the Choice Hotel discounts, we saved a lot of money.”

Now that’s quite a success story for OFB’s member benefit programs!

> The Farm Bureau discounts are there; the trick is to remember to take advantage of them. In the February 2015 issue of the OFB Newsletter, voting and supporting members will find an OFB benefits sheet, which lists all of the discount programs and how to access them. The newsletter will hit mailboxes in about a week.

See the list of OFB member benefits here. To get the special codes, instructions, etc. Farm Bureau members can contact Melissa Armour with their FB member number and/or the name listed on the membership.
