Oregon Farm Bureau Launches Wildfire Relief Fund

The following is the body of a letter sent out to all Farm Bureau members from OFB President Angi Bailey:

As I write to you today, I am filled with both concern and hope. Our beautiful state is facing one of the most challenging wildfire seasons that we have seen in a long time. With six to eight weeks still to go, there are 129 active fires burning over one million acres in the state, with nearly half of this being critical grazing land.  This year’s devastating fires have not only threatened lives and property but have also deeply impacted the heart of our agricultural community.

As farmers and ranchers, we have seen the first-hand impact that a disaster like this has on families, livelihoods, and communities. Moving forward, the needs will be great. One of the many things that I love about our agricultural community is how we are wired to show-up. It’s in our nature to support one another; and now more than ever, our community needs our collective strength and compassion. This is why I am reaching out to you with a heartfelt request to contribute to the Oregon Farm Bureau (OFB) Wildfire Relief Fund.

The OFB Wildfire Relief Fund has been established to provide crucial assistance to those who have been affected by these fires. The funds will be used to help farms and ranches with essential needs, such as rebuilding infrastructure, replacing lost livestock, replacement feed, and other urgent recovery efforts. Every donation, no matter the size, will make a significant difference in helping our fellow farmers and ranchers get back on their feet. OFB will take no administrative fee from these donations so that all contributions can be distributed directly to affected counties based on need.

Here’s how you can help:

  1. Make a Donation. You can contribute online through our secure donation portal by visiting oregonfb.org/donate or by sending a check to 1320 Capitol Street NE #200, Salem, Oregon 97301 (note “Wildfire” on the check).

  2. Spread the Word. Share information about the Wildfire Relief Fund with your friends, family, and social networks. The more people who know, the more resources available to support of our community.

  3. Hay. With the help of North Valley Agriculture, we will be accepting donations of hay at 15240 NE North Valley Rd, Newberg, Oregon 97132. Donations will be accepted on Fridays between 11am and 6pm beginning August 9th. All donations will go directly to impacted ranchers. N.V.A. employees will assist with hand/squeeze unloads when available. Contact Austin McClister at 503-313-1712 or austin@oregonfb.org for questions and assistance.

Our strength as a community comes from our ability to come together in times of need. Oregon Farm Bureau is a family – it’s time to show up and support one another. Together, we can help our friends and neighbors get through this difficult time.

Thank you for your continued dedication to Oregon agriculture and for your generosity toward our friends and neighbors.
